October 31, 2011 (Ames, IA) – Greater Iowa Credit Union is jump starting a new reading program campaign for Ames schools. Linda Gibbs, business development specialist at the credit union presented Ann Arbuckle, executive director of the Ames Education Foundation with a $900 donation at a kick-off luncheon held at the Ames Golf and Country Club on October 24th.
The donation was a complete surprise to the guests at what is being called The 100’s Club and will be used as seed money to kick-off the fundraising campaign to raise $100,000 over a five year period to support the Leveled Reader’s Program in the Ames Community School District. Purchasing these books for K-5 classrooms has been identified as a priority by the Ames Education Foundation. The 100’s Club is a group of 100 women dedicated to raising funds for the Ames Community School District.
Arbuckle said; “The gift comes at a wonderful time, and it is our hope that it will be an inspiration to other prospective donors in the community to help with the leveled readers program.” Gibbs added; “We at Greater Iowa have our roots in education, and we see helping our schools as one of our top philanthropic priorities.”
